Broadband prices set to go even higher

Stressed couple2022 has been a bad year for broadband customers. On average, monthly tariffs have increased by 10-15%.

The big question is, will these bills continue to rise in 2023 or can UK broadband consumers finally expect some much-needed financial relief?

Will broadband prices rise in 2023?

Things are not looking good for customers hoping (or praying) to pay less for their internet in 2022 or 2023.

Research by consumer champion ‘Which?’ indicates that broadband prices are on target to go up by another 14% next year, adding an extra £100 to some annual bills.

The cost of living crisis isn’t a newspaper headline. It’s real life for millions of people in the UK.

A closer look at the 2023 price rises.

The customers locked into contracts with the big-name providers will be hit hardest. No surprise there!

According to Which?, BT Customers will see the biggest hikes; their tariffs will jump by 14%, adding £113.07 to the average annual bill.

It won’t be much better for Vodafone and TalkTalk customers. Customers signed up with these mainstream internet firms could pay an extra £92.35 and £90.15 a year, respectively.

Is anyone doing anything about this?

Which? recently launched its ‘cost of living’ campaign. It’s calling on the government and mainstream broadband providers to do more to help customers.

Which? wants to see:

  • More social tariffs
  • An end to early termination charges for customers who want to switch providers before their current deal expires
  • A serious discussion on capping mid-contract price rises

“It is unacceptable that many broadband customers are facing price hikes of up to £113 on their bill during an unrelenting cost of living crisis,” says Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy. “Customers should be allowed to leave their contract without penalty if prices are hiked mid-contract – regardless of whether or not these increases can be said to be ‘transparent’.”
